AMATIGATI
In 1879 on the coast of Natal in Zululand a battle between good & evil was fought between two witchdoctors – a good Nyanga and an evil Umthakati that would lead to the death of one and the rule of the other. Intertwined with the fate of the one is an honest and true, good British soldier, Lord Morecroft, and his servant, Sipho.
On the eve of the Battle of Isandlwana, Lord Morecroft is drawn away to take care of a lion that has been savagely attacking the occupants of a village at the behest of Nyanga, who is the real master of Sipho.
After the battle Lord Morecroft is charged with cowardice for leaving his unit and the battle, even though his commanding officer gave him permission to take care of the lion. During the battle, Lord Morecroft’s commanding officer was killed. With no evidence to the contrary Morecroft narrowly escapes death by firing squad and is discharged with a cloud of cowardice hanging over him. He returns to England in disgrace . . .
Years later Lord Morecroft returns with his mute daughter, their Alsatian, Sipho, a physician and an orthodox minister, full of Victorian zeal and values and hell bent on preaching the Bible to the savages of the Dark Continent – All, however, is not as it seems . . .
